Considering they literally just met, it’s insane to believe this line could become so impactful. When Dean asks “Why?,” Cas manages to make Dean feel like his life is worth something — like God had a plan for him.

“And I did it, all of it, for you.”

Castiel has constantly done things to keep the Winchesters safe and alive — he even rebelled against heaven. Castiel has managed to sacrifice so much of his life and glory for Dean — and it just makes our hearts hurt when Dean and Cas confess what they’ve done for each other.

“I know, you’re hoping Castiel will return to you.”

Dean’s face throughout this whole scene reminds us that Destiel isn’t and will never be one-sided. Dean’s reaction and facial expressions show us that Dean loves and cares about Cas. And everyone knows it.

“You know, the one in the dirty trenchcoat who’s in love with you.”

EVERYONE KNOWS IT. EVERYONE. Everyone in this show has come to see the connection between Dean and Cas — and it’s undeniable!

“Castiel? Uh… he’s not here. You see, he has this weakness. He likes you.“

It’s always one of the most heartbreaking things to be reminded of — that Cas and Dean are one of each other’s weaknesses. They continuously fight the people who hurt the other. This ship sails itself people!

“He was your boyfriend first.”

The relationship between Meg and Cas was an onslaught for many fans — some were even caught off-guard when Cas and Meg kissed. But somehow, Meg saw what they had too? Considering she died, we can only assume she knew Cas would be well-off in the hands of Dean (and Sam, I guess).

You know how ships have certain lines that end up becoming the ship’s tagline? This is definitely one of them. Cas, with a few sentences, manages to get Dean to believe that he’s going to be there for him as often as  he can. Cas wants Dean to trust him — and this is Cas trying to prove it.

“I’m not leaving here without you.”

Purgatory was a strange, dark place. But when Cas shows up in Purgatory, Dean promises to take Cas with him when they finally leave (this obviously doesn’t happen this exact way, but what can you do?). And, without delving too deep into fan theory, when Cas returns to Earth, we realize that Dean like clean-shaven Cas better.

“Well, Cas, not for nothing, but the last person who looked at me like that… I got laid.” 

Does this quote even need explanation guys? I mean, this sort of thing speaks for itself, no?

The trenchcoat.

This stupid trenchcoat represents everything about Cas — this coat is Castiel. And Dean keeps it, carries it around, keeps it in a safe place, for when Cas comes back. And when he does, Cas puts it on over his clothes and he’s Cas again and that’s all Dean every wanted, AND I CAN’T DO THIS.

“I need you.”

Definitely one of the most heartbreaking Destiel moments of all time. Remember when Cas was brainwashed into killing Dean? And right when Cas was about to do it, Dean said “I need you,” and then Cas realized what he was doing? Remember how much your heart was hurting? Yeah, same. Dean doesn’t just love Cas, he needs him.
